JEFF HINSHAw

Jeff Hinshaw (he/they) is a queer astrologer, writer, teacher, tarot practitioner, researcher, and community facilitator whose work explores astrology and tarot as tools for self-discovery, embodied awareness, and collective care.

For more than fifteen years, astrology has been at the center of his work, with a particular interest in symbolism, ritual, psychology, and creativity.

Jeff is the founder of Cosmic Cousins, a weekly astrology and tarot podcast and education platform. Through the podcast, newsletters, Substack, Instagram, workshops, mentorship, and yearlong certification program, Jeff translates astrology into practical and playful way. He has interviewed hundreds of artists, healers, and musicians on the podcast, creating conversations that use astrology as a doorway into deeper learning.

A writer by training, Jeff holds a B.A. in Psychology and a B.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. His publishing work includes Aries for Sterling Publishing and Lonely Planet Travel Tarot, published in February 2026.

Jeff’s astrological studies span Hellenistic, Evolutionary, and Esoteric traditions. Since 2020, he has devoted particular attention to traditional and Hellenistic astrology, studying planetary condition, sect, dignity, house topics, planetary cycles, transits, and other traditional techniques. The deeper he moves into his astrological practice, the more he values the structure, history, and rigor of traditional astrology, finding that its established frameworks provide a rich foundation for interpretation. At the same time, he remains curious about the ways contemporary practitioners continue to expand astrology’s symbolic language through intuitive, embodied, queer, and feminist perspectives.

Jeff is also a member of astrologer and teacher Heidi Rose Robbins’ astrology team, whose work weaves Esoteric astrology together with somatic embodiment and experiential practice. Through this work, Jeff records astrological “snapshots,” short-form reflections that translate astrological movements into accessible, embodied language. The experience has deepened his interest in astrology not only as a symbolic system, but as a lived practice, something that can be felt in the body and integrated into everyday life.

Asteroids are an important part of Jeff’s practice, particularly for the queer-feminist perspectives they bring to astrology and the additional dimensions they offer within a birth chart. Jeff’s research includes Chiron, Eris, Black Moon Lilith, Pallas, Vesta, Juno, Ceres, White Moon Selena, Hecate, Astraea, Hygeia, and more. He is drawn to the way these bodies open up overlooked stories and feminist archetypes, creating new entry points into questions of identity, power, gender, creativity, and belonging.

Tarot is similarly central to Jeff’s approach. He uses tarot as a visual and archetypal language for understanding astrology, grounding astrological insight in ritual, imagination, and lived experience. One of his particular gifts is bringing mystical concepts into accessible, tangible forms. This approach is at the heart of Journey to the High Priestess: Personal Mythmaking with Tarot, as well as the Brooklyn Fools Tarot Journey, a six-month immersive exploration of the Major Arcana.

Teaching and mentorship have become an increasingly important part of Jeff’s work. Through one-on-one mentorship and group programs, Jeff supports students in developing their own relationship to astrology and tarot. His Cosmic Cousins Soul-Centered Astrology Certification Program is a yearlong educational journey combining traditional astrological study with tarot, mythology, embodiment, ritual, and experiential learning.

At the heart of Jeff’s work is a belief that astrology is not about prescribing a fixed identity or inevitable future.
