Brooklyn fools: tarot journey
6-month Ritual Immersion through the Major Arcana
Welcome to the Brooklyn Fools Tarot Journey — a 6-month ritual immersion of self-discovery through the major arcana of the tarot. I am your guide, Jeff Hinshaw.
For years, this journey has unfolded as an intimate pilgrimage through the 22 archetypes of the Major Arcana — a lived, embodied rite of passage.
Now, for the first time, those who feel called can step not only into the role of seeker, but also into the role of guide. This shift marks an evolution in the lineage of the work: a passing of the flame, a widening of the circle, and an invitation to carry this sacred storytelling tradition into your own communities.
If you’ve walked the Fool’s path before, you’ll feel familiar echoes returning — but with new depth, new responsibility, and new magic.
And if you’re stepping into the Fool for the very first time, consider this your invitation to apprentice yourself to mystery.
Each week (for 22 weeks) from Fool to the World we will gathering for 90-minutes. This embodied approach allows your to understand the philosophy of the Fool’s Journey as a lived initiation, rather than an abstract concept.
By directly experiencing each archetype’s medicine and message, you will begin to understand the Fool’s Journey as the journey unfolds from within.
During each week, you will receive:
Journal prompts and affirmations to guide your experience
Altar-building guidance for the card of the week
A weekly integration practice to turn in as part of your final thesis to receive your certification of completion
During each gathering you will enjoy the following:
a cleanse + invocation
guided meditation
altar building reflections
a deep-dive tarot lesson on history, symbolism and iconography
tarot exercises
shared reflections and stories
close-out rituals
In addition to the 22 gatherings, you will also receive written and detailed hand outs with beautiful images, prompts and tarot instructions.
This year’s offering of the Brooklyn Fool’s Tarot Journey is very special for a few reasons.
This years Fool’s Journey is being offered for the first time ever as a facilitator and practitioner training.
We are being joined by guest co-facilitators Lindsay Mack of Tarot for the Wild Soul and Mary Evans of Spirit Speak Tarot.
This year’s Fool’s Journey is also occurring at the same time that Jeff Hinshaw’s Lonely Planet Travel Tarot deck is being released into the world (February 17, 2026).
Meet Your Guide: Jeff Hinshaw
I’m Jeff Hinshaw, the founder of the Brooklyn Fool’s Tarot Journey, which began in 2014 as a humble, curiosity-driven experiment in ritual, intuition, and community. Guided by a desire to explore the depths of self through story, symbol, and shared experience, I created this six-month pilgrimage as a space to witness transformation — for myself, and for anyone ready to step fully into the path.
Over the years, this work has grown into a living, breathing container: a lineage of seekers, artists, and practitioners learning to hold space for their own mysteries while honoring those of others. My approach is rooted in listening, intuition, and the belief that every person brings a unique thread to the story of the Fool’s journey.
I will be present with you every step of the way, throughout all 22 gatherings, offering guidance, reflection, and witness as you navigate your own path. This journey is designed to be immersive, challenging, and deeply nourishing — and I am here to hold the space, to ask the questions that open doors, and to honor the discoveries you make along the way.
Together, we will walk the Fool’s path, exploring the unknown, embracing curiosity, and celebrating the magic of transformation — every step, every gathering, every revelation.
Introducing Our guest Practitioners
We are blessed to walk this journey in community, guided not only by the sacred container but by two luminous co-facilitators whose medicine deeply enriches our path.
Lindsay Mack — Tarot for the Wild Soul
Lindsay Mack (she/they) is an intuitive artist, writer, death‑doula, and the founder of Tarot for the Wild Soul. Their work is trauma-sensitive, deeply rooted in soul-healing and non-predictive tarot.
Lindsay will be sharing from a place of deep lineage: she has co‑facilitated this very Fool’s Journey in past incarnations (including in Brooklyn in 2015 and 2016), bringing both memory and lived experience into their teaching.
*Over the course of our six months, Lindsay will co-facilitate key gatherings, including the ones centered around The High Priestess, The Hermit, and The Tower — phases in the journey that call for reflection, inner wisdom, and breakthrough.
Mary Evans — Spirit Speak Tarot
Mary Evans is a visionary artist and deck creator whose work is both intimate and profound. As the founder of Spirit Speak, she has developed six decks in total, marrying hand-drawn aesthetics with deeply felt symbolism. Mary’s work has been celebrated widely — including in Taschen’s Tarot Library of Esoterica book — a testament to the depth and beauty of her creative voice.
In addition to leading tarot rituals and teachings, Mary is known to host a variety of workshops, including the beloved “Witch Craft” arts and crafts series, bringing her signature blend of alchemy and play to community-making, creativity, and ritual.
*Mary will be co-facilitating the gatherings centered on The Empress, The Wheel of Fortune, and The Star — moments of abundance, cycles, and visionary inspiration.
Why Their Presence Matters
Lindsay and Mary do more than teach — they embody lineage, possibility, and the call to guide. Their practices have deeply inspired me, and model how tarot is not only a tool for self-inquiry, but also a way of stepping into the role of facilitator, artist, and the steward of mystery.
As you articulate your own intention for participating in the Fool’s Journey, their presence invites you to imagine not just what you will receive, but what you might become — a reader, a teacher, a creator, a facilitator of sacred stories.
Stepping Into the Journey:
Your Intention for the Training
This six-month immersion is more than a personal exploration, it is a facilitator training, a space where each participant can decide how they wish to engage with the Fool’s Journey and the wisdom it contains.
From the very beginning, you will be invited to consider your intention for this experience: Do you wish to deepen your skills as a practicing reader? Create your own deck or integrate tarot into your daily ritual? Or perhaps you envision one day facilitating your own six-month Fool’s Journey for others?
Whatever your calling, this container is designed to support, challenge, and hold you accountable. By the Magician gathering (the second gathering), you will articulate your intention, setting the compass for your journey. From there, I will provide assignments, guidance, and check-ins designed to help you follow through on your goals, deepen your practice, and step fully into your chosen path.
By the time we get to the Judgment gathering (the second to last gathering), you will present to me the completion of your thesis (that we will decide upon together). Then, during the World Gathering (our final gathering), we will celebrate your growth as you receive a certificate of completion — the first group ever to receive this recognition, marking a new evolution in the lineage of the Fool’s Journey. This diploma is not only a symbol of achievement, but also a testament to the commitment, reflection, and transformation each participant has brought to the container.
The 2026 Brooklyn Fools Tarot Journey Facilitator Training is your invitation to step fully into the role of seeker, apprentice and guide, to explore the journey with depth, curiosity, and courage, and to emerge not only transformed, but equipped to share the flame with others.

Why is this called the ‘Brooklyn Fools Tarot Journey’?
The original journey was hosted and founded in Brooklyn, New York in 2014. Even though this journey is no longer based out of Brooklyn, it still holds the vibrational energy of this location. It is both a deep honoring of the origins of the journey, as well as a deep bow of remembrance to Pamela Colman Smith who illustrated the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot at Pratt University in Brooklyn, New York.
It is a true honor to be here with you, holding space for the Fool’s Journey once again. This work has been a sacred practice in my own life, and I feel both humbled and deeply excited to share it with you.
With love and gratitude,
Jeff Hinshaw
Here is the Fool card in my upcoming Lonely Planet Travel Tarot deck. The location is set at the Gower Peninsula in Swansea, Wales, a location near and dear to my heart. Symbolizing a return to ancient wisdom, it was the first place I traveled outside of my home country and began to learn for the first time about the world at large.
Fool’s Journey Facilitator Jeff Hinshaw with this years’ guest co-facilitators Mary Evans of Spirit Speak Tarot and Lindsay Mack of Tarot for the Wild Soul.
My tarot deck, the Lonely Planet Travel Tarot deck is set to be released in the U.S. on February 17, 2026, which makes this deck an Aquarius Sun with a Pisces Moon (quite fitting for such an expansive deck celebrating humanity).
The Rider-Waite-Smith tarot is the most widely published and recognized tarot deck in the world. Throughout our time, we will be using these images as the foundational understanding of the symbolism and archetypes of the tarot.
Excitingly, during the journey Lindsay’s first book Tarot for the Wild Soul and Tarot deck will be released — a powerful synchronicity that aligns her creative unfolding with ours.
Throughout our time together, we not only we be building a foundational understanding of the tarot through the study of traditional tarot cards, we will also be exploring more modern tarot decks as well. For instance, here is the Fool from Tarot of the Holy Spectrum.
Here’s one of Mary’s tarot decks, the Apparition Tarot is a poetic and transformative tool, perfect for deepening our experience of the Fool’s Journey and guiding each participant along their path.
What makes the Brooklyn Fools Tarot Journey so special is it’s deep dive ritualistic approach to learning the tarot. This journey creates a nurturing container for you to intimately touch base with your tarot practice.
Here is an image of me with the 2017 group of the Fool’s Journey. What a special group they were! You will see in the middle is me with co-facilitator Lindsay Mack. Leading the journey in-person was such a rich experience. I have gained so much from these past journeys and I infuse them into my current practice and teachings of the Fool’s Journey.
Here you will see the “soul-growth” card for each astrological sign presented in the Zodiac Wheel. During the journey you will be deeply immersed into the astrological significance of the tarot, both from a historical and intuitive stand-point.
Here is a gorgeous collage of Georgia O’Keeffe as the figure on the Death card. O’Keeffe was named ‘Queen of Scorpio’ by the Cosmic Cousins community. Throughout the Brooklyn Fools Journey, you will learn about many historical figures as a teaching tool to understanding the energy of different tarot cards. This tarot collage was created by Tarot Wolf.
A part of my tarot practice is to make a collage for each year of my life based off the Year Card I am moving through. Here is a collage I made of my personal ‘Star Card Year’ which was in 2017. You will learn about this process and be invited to map out your life through collages during the journey. I will also be sharing with you all of mine. :)
In addition to exploring the Major Arcana, we also have the opportunity to connect with the Court Cards and the Minor Arcana. I have included this image of the 3 of Swords, because it is one of those cards that is often feared. The “scarier” cards in the tarot are something I love talking about, so we will be sure to explore their soul-centered invitation to ease any worry you may have.
Here’s an image of me in 2015 setting up the altar for the in-person Temperance gathering. The Fool’s Journey is beyond just tarot. It is a devotional and spiritual practice of reflection and communion. During our journey I will share with you my many practices that connect me to the tarot.
Music is a big part of my practice with tarot. It helps to illicit and awaken our intuition. For each Major Arcana card, I have curated a music playlist that helps to immerse yourself into the energy of the card of the week. You will receive a link to these playlists each week throughout the journey.
